Dj Ammo

Biography
Growing up as a child I was surrounded by bhangra which instilled an intrinsic love of music, funk, bass and drum patterns in me.As I became a teenager I submersed myself in hip hop, loving songs by Mobb Deep and Wu Tang Clan amongst many others. By 2003 I felt that the hip hop coming out was repetitive with no technical boundaries being pushed and an increasing stress on shallow or poppy
content.
At this stage I started searching for dark garage tunes that had that edge and energy yet still were dark. I heard tunes like
'Said the Spider' by Darqwan, 'Venom' by Plasticman and 'Eskimo 2' by Wiley. These songs really hit me as being what I wanted to
hear: they were so stripped down and raw with loads of bass and dark sounds. I got a pair of decks and concentrated on mixing these 'garage' sounds as they mutated into 'grime' and 'dubstep'.
Every year I am still astounded by new tunes that come out and push the limits of production, taking soundspace into places never
before imagined. Sounds like 'Ground Zero' by Wiley, 'Mawo Dub' by Digital Mystikz, 'Glamma' by Skream, 'Break' by Darkstar and most of Burial's work are the types of tunes that I feel have pushed underground UK music forward year by year.
On my show you can hear grime and dubstep, to me I still see them as part of UK garage. Currently I'm loving the amount of signed and unsigned talent across the world and the pure vibes you get from nights like FWD and DMZ where the whole night is all about the music.
